Our Sustainable Goals

Whilst working towards NetZero by 2030, and achieving B Corp certification, we are committed to helping the world to meet the 17 UN sustainable development goals. Our team have been consulted throughout the process and a collaborative group, involving team members from across the business, is working on putting in place processes, policies and working practices to ensure that we can meet the goals best suited to our business.

People

Description: The positive and negative impact that an organization has on its most important stakeholders. These include employees, families, customers, suppliers, communities, and any other person influencing, or being affected by, the organization.

What Are We Doing?

Starting out in 2009, the working world was very different to how we find ourselves now. In 2021, having gone through a period of fundamental change to the way we work, we decided to look at how we could formalise a structure that would retain the culture of the business we had built up, whilst also allowing to us to recruit and retain the best talent. Situated in the middle of the countryside, we often struggled with recruitment and felt incredibly fortunate to have such a great team who were passionate about the customer experience, the business and the environment.

Alongside having a working structure, environment and culture that allowed us to recruit and retain the best talent, we also wanted to build strong relationships with our customers and develop value in our networks, both locally and in our sector.

Planet

Description: The positive and negative impact that an organization has on its natural environment. This includes reducing its carbon footprint, usage of natural resources, toxic materials etc., as well as the active removal of waste, reforestation and restoration of natural harm done.

What Are We Doing?

As part of the business transformation that occurred in 2020/2021, we set ourselves a goal of achieving NetZero by 2030. We held a number of consultations with our team to get their buy in, as we needed everyone to be aligned with our ethos and working towards a shared goal.

NetZero

  • Calculation of our emissions, working with Ecologi
  • Ongoing monitoring of our emissions and strategies to reduce them
  • Introduction of a home working emissions calculator, which we are gamifying, to encourage our team to work and live smarter

  • Introduction of benefits designed to help our team reduce their emissions

  • Implementation of a purchasing policy to question our supply chain to understand their emissions and to then assist in their reduction

Environment

  • Reduction of office commuting by offering home working, via our intelligent working policy
  • Introduction of volunteering opportunities, encouraging our team to get out into nature and take part in local activities which improve our environment
  • Commitment to reducing our waste and increasing our recycling efforts
  • Commitment to moving to electric vehicles for the directors over the next three years
  • Commitment to become Climate Positive via carbon footprint offsetting contributions for each team member, whilst we work towards NetZero

Local

  • Implemetation of a purchasing policy that firstly ratified the requirement and secondly sourced the item from a socially and environmental approriate supplier
  • Support for a local environmental charity, assiting them both financially, and with expertise, time and resource to help propel their business to the next level

Profit

Description: The positive and negative impact that an organization has on the local, national and international economy. This includes creating employment, generating innovation, paying taxes, wealth creation and any other economic impact that an organization delivers.

What Are We Doing?

As a small business in a growing sector, our profits have always been re-invested back into developing our services and products for the following years.

Since 2019 we have been looking at how we can use our profits, both to ensure the future of the business and to give back to local communities, organisations and charities.

Charity

  • Annual commitment to supporting a local charity, both financially and with time and resource
  • Regular support for  local schools and clubs with raffle prizes, gifts or cash sums as prizes
  • Support for our team's exisitng volunteering in their local community - either in guiding groups, on school governing boards or in school PTA's

Team

  • Commitment to being a Living Wage employer
  • Regular benchmarking of salaries in our sector and pertinent to our location
  • Introduction of a personalised benefits package designed to support team members
  • Introduction of a share option scheme to provide greater involvement and financial benefits to our key employees

Business

  • Introduction of procurement processes to enforce approval by the leadership team for any spend over £5k
  • Introduction of structured time and budget allocation for training opportunities within the business to ensure continuous improvement

Our Impact

In our partnership with Ecologi so far, we have achieved the following badges.

Ecologi is a platform for real climate action. They facilitate the funding of carbon offset projects and tree planting around the world. Their mission is to reduce 50% of global CO2 emissions by 2040 and responsibly plant billions of trees every year.

Take a look at their collective action page and how, by working together, we can all make a real difference.
