Building a picture with feedback - Wednesday Wisdom
After our last Wednesday Wisdom session on “How to deliver feedback”, this got me thinking about how feedback effects my job. Working as a creative your receiving feedback all the time and it’s how you interpret that feedback, reflects on your next lots of project revisions. From my own experience when receiving vague feedback on designs like “I don’t know what it is, but this doesn’t feel right to me. Can you try something else?”. These kinds of comments can be frustrating as it either means I’ve not fully understood the brief, in which case I’d look back over what was set out for me at the beginning of the project and how I’ve ended up with the current look of the project. To then ask more questions and show other example to the client of how we could achieve their desired outcome.
A fun activity I had put together for the team was this. I had created five quick drawing briefs that they would need to fulfil within a time limit of 3 minutes per brief. Each time the next brief would have an increased number of instructions to be included into the team’s drawings.
The briefs where as follows:
1. Draw anything.
2. Draw something you see in the sky.
3. Draw something you would relate to France.
4. Draw a circle, then draw a four-legged animal inside of your circle.
5. Draw a circle, then draw a cat, sat in a sailboat. With an eye patch over its left eye and a pirate’s hat on.
This exercise was to demonstrate to the team that the more feedback you give someone , the better the picture they can build of the final desire outcome.
