In this week's Wednesday Wisdom our Lead Developer took us through how our new communications system works.
When we send communications to customers, either to update them on their balance, because they’ve placed an order or just because they’ve forgotten their password, we want to make those communications personal. Handlebars is what’s known as a templating language. It’s used in SendGrid to allow us to send them just the details we want to include and have that information placed in the email. It can be used for simple things like inserting the persons name in the salutation to more complex ones like displaying a full list of reward items in an order or displaying different content in the same email template depending on what someone’s balance is.
Jo delivered a great session by trying to teach everyone the basics of how Handlebars works and showed the team some of the tools available in SendGrid and LoyaltyStream to help make setting up email templates a little easier.
